The Great O Antiphons: O Oriens

5.  O Oriens (O Radiant Dawn)

Pray: O Radiant Dawn, splendor of eternal light, Sun of justice:  Come, shine on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death.

Read: For you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.  (Malachi 4:2)

Because of the tender mercy of our God,
the Dayspring shall visit us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.  (Luke 1:78-79)

Sing: O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer our spirits by thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night, and death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
