Fun Fact

The first Chia Pet to be marketed was the ram, which was introduced in 1982.

It is probably still sitting on a shelf in a Walgreens somewhere.

    Textbook marketing mistake- If only they added some food coloring and made the Chia pets a nice Smurf Blue color they would have sold countless millions to McDonalds for the Happy Meal.

    I have been told by several senior citizens that the Chia concept was around a loooooong time ago, 1930s or so, with the tree-shaped one.

    SNL did a spoof ad for a Chia baldness cure.

    In 1982, my older cousins got everyone Chia pets for Christmas. My Gramma and my aunt LOVED them! I think my cousin would get one again for my aunt if she ever sees one in Walgreens…
