    I always remember this event: November 4, 1979 — Iran hostage crisis begins.

    The notable births: Kathy Griffin, Ralph Macchio, Jeff, Probst, and Sean “Diddy” Combs. (OK, Walter Cronkite and Laura Bush, too.)

    I didn’t know Mendelssohn died on my birthday in 1847.

    And let us all celebrate Panama’s flag day this upcoming November 4.
