Bimbos Aplenty

We now have a Bimbo outlet! Hooray! Bimbos! Cheap Bimbos!

Bimbo

For those of you who may live outside the realm of Bimbos: Bimbo is a big Mexican bakery. Bimbo bread is kind of like the Wonder Bread of Mexico. In addition to various kinds of breads, Bimbo also makes lots of wonderful rolls and cakes. Here in the U.S., the Bimbo Company–Bimbo U.S.A.–uses the “Mrs. Baird’s” label. I guess they figure that if the Bimbo goes by the name Mrs. Baird, she will be more socially acceptable to American consumers.

So the Bimbo store here is officially the Mrs. Baird’s Bakery Outlet. But, as soon as you walk in the door, you will see the giant word “BIMBO” emblazoned across the back wall.

And yes, they have our favorite, the Bimbo Cinnamon Rolls. We had them for breakfast today, as a matter of fact.

The prices are great! It is not just “day old bread.” They have fresh bread too. And a fresh loaf of honey wheat bread was $1.09: the same loaf of bread would be about $2.00 at the grocery store. It’s south of town (past the Methodist Children’s Home), so if you’re not heading that way it may not be worth the trip. But since it is very close to the school one of our children attends, it’s great for us.

In addition to the Bimbo cakes and rolls and Mrs. Baird’s bread and snacks, Bimbo also makes those really good Tia Rosa tortillas and the Tia Rosa mega-thin tortilla chips. They are also the distributors in this area for Oroweat whole-grain breads, Thomas’ English Muffins, Boboli pizza crusts, and Entenmann’s baked goods.

So stop by and get some cheap Bimbos!

  1. No Ho-Hos at the bimbo store.
    Yes, everyone respects a Mrs.

That’s right. No Ho-Hos, just Bimbos. I don’t know if there is a Mrs. Baird’s equivalent to the Ho-Ho or the Swiss Cake Roll. But I do know that once you fill up your little punch card at the Bimbo/Mrs. Baird’s store you get a free loaf of bread AND a free snack cake, which would be an opportune time to see if they have a Mrs. Baird’s Ho-Ho equivalent.

OK, Marinela is the snack cake division of Bimbo. The closest thing Marinela has to Ho-Hos are something called Choco Roles. They’re like Ho-Hos or Swiss Cake Rolls, except in addition to the creme filling they also have a swirl of pineapple jelly. Eww.

I actually work for Bimbo Bakeries.
Bimbo has purchased Mrs. Bairds, and that is why the use of both names.
And the word “Bimbo” means “Little Bear” in spanish, thus the bear above the name.

Did you know that Mrs. Bairds will be celebrating 100 years in 2008???

Thank you for promoting great products!

    Hey Muttley’s Mom,

So, any chance of some free Bimbos in exchange for this free advertising? 🙂

Thanks for stopping by the blog. And happy almost-100th-birthday to Mrs. Baird. For an old gal, she still makes some good bread.

    Hello RevJATB!!

Unfortunately, they have an all you can eat policy while at work, but we are never allowed to leave the building with unconsumed product!

Yes, Mrs. Baird is still going strong at 108!! We have an oil painting in our board room of Ninnie Baird, and she looks like she could make a mean loaf of bread. It’s nice that the company hasn’t forgot its roots.

BTW; I found this blog searching in Google for an image of the “Bimbo Bear” for an outgoing mail. It pulled up the blog, and I couldn’t resist!

    Back to work-
